He said it marks the beginning of a new chapter in economic cooperation, strategic trust, and future partnership between the two countries.</div><div><br></div><div>After years of negotiations, India and New Zealand finally concluded the FTA on April 27. Under the agreement, 100% of Indian exports to New Zealand will receive tariff-free access. Meanwhile, tariffs on 95% of goods coming from New Zealand to India will either be eliminated or significantly reduced. The agreement was signed in the presence of Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand’s Commerce Minister Todd McClay.</div><div><br></div><div>Following the agreement, EAM Jaishankar wrote on social media platform X, “The signing of India - New Zealand Free Trade Agreement today is a landmark for our ties. The FTA will forge stronger economic partnerships, boost investments and enhance market access for our exporters. It will also unlock new opportunities for innovators, entrepreneurs, farmers, MSMEs, women and youth. </div><div><br></div><div>In his post, the minister also shared key figures indicating significant benefits for India. He noted that the agreement includes a provision under which New Zealand will invest $20 billion in India over the next 15 years. Additionally, Indian exports will receive a major boost due to duty-free access to the New Zealand market, particularly benefiting sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, and engineering. The agreement also provides for 5,000 annual visas for skilled professionals, which will enhance mobility in sectors like IT and healthcare. Currently, around 8,000 Indian students are studying in New Zealand, and the new agreement will further ease post-study work visa rules for them.</div><div><br></div><div>Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that the agreement was concluded in record time under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. Notably, economic ties between the two countries are now at their strongest, with a shared goal of doubling bilateral trade to $5 billion over the next five years.</div>

According to recent reports, under “Operation Sindhu” and other evacuation efforts, the embassy has taken several significant steps to safely bring back thousands of Indians.</div><div><br></div><div>With Iranian airspace closed and limited flight availability, the embassy has coordinated with Armenia and Azerbaijan to arrange evacuations via land routes. Since the conflict began, more than 2,200 Indian nationals have reportedly been evacuated through these routes, including around 1,000 students and over 650 fishermen. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar stated on April 11 that an additional 312 Indian fishermen had been safely evacuated from Iran.</div><div><br></div><div>In a post on social media platform X, the Minister wrote, “Another 312 Indian fishermen safely evacuated from Iran to India through Armenia. Thank the Government of Armenia and my friend Ararat Mirzoyan for making this possible.” Additionally, during his UAE visit on April 12, Dr. Jaishankar met President Mohamed bin Zayed and expressed gratitude for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community during the ongoing conflict. Earlier, on April 5, 345 Indian fishermen stranded in Iran were safely brought to Chennai via Armenia.</div><div><br></div><div>Despite the closure of air routes, India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tehran have made every possible effort to assist distressed citizens, and the phased evacuation of Indians continues in batches.</div><div><br></div><div>According to media reports, many of those recently evacuated via Armenia are fishermen from Tamil Nadu’s districts of Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Nagapattinam. After returning home, the fishermen described their journey back from war-hit Iran as being like receiving a “second life.” They also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian missions for their safe return.</div><div><br></div><div>It is worth noting that as soon as the conflict began in West Asia, Indian missions across the region went on high alert. They have been continuously issuing advisories in the interest of Indian citizens, urging them to stay in touch with the embassy and seek guidance before heading toward any international border. Despite efforts toward ceasefire and peace talks, the situation in the region remains tense, and the Government of India is prioritizing the evacuation of those still stranded.</div>

Amid these tensions, the crude oil tanker “Seaface Vishnu”, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands and reportedly owned by a U.S. company, was attacked near Basra in Iraq. According to media reports, the attack was carried out by an Iranian suicide boat. Unfortunately, one Indian crew member lost his life in the incident.</div><div><br></div><div>Due to the heightened tensions in the region, officials at the Indian Embassy in Baghdad were already on alert and closely monitoring developments in the area. As soon as the incident was reported, the embassy immediately arranged for the remaining 15 Indian crew members to be moved to a safe location.</div><div><br></div><div>In a post on the social media platform X, the Indian Embassy said, “On March 11, 2026, a US-owned crude oil tanker Safesea Vishnu, sailing under the Marshall Islands flag, was attacked near Basra, Iraq, in which one Indian crew member unfortunately lost his life.  The remaining 15 Indian crew have since been evacuated to a safe place.  Embassy of India Baghdad is in regular contact with Iraqi authorities and rescued Indian sailors and is offering all possible assistance. Indian Missions/Posts abroad also proactively reach out to distressed Indian nationals, either directly or through the local Indian Diaspora Associations within their jurisdiction and provide them all possible consular services, including legal assistance, medical care and boarding/ lodging, whenever required. It stated, “In this context, all Indian citizens are strongly cautioned to exercise the strictest vigilance regarding such employment promises or offers. In particular, it may be noted that the Government of Iran allows visa-free entry to Indians only for tourism purposes. Any agents promising visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other purposes may well be in connivance with criminal gangs. Indian citizens are therefore advised not to fall prey to such offers.”</div><div><br></div><div>The Government of India emphasized that it continues to place the highest priority on the safety of Indian citizens abroad and is closely monitoring the situation to safeguard their interests.</div>

When there are multiple disruptions, our objective should be to proof it against such shocks. That means creating more resilient, reliable, redundant and shorter supply chains. Not just that, it is also essential that we democratize manufacturing and production and encourage their growth in different geographies. Progress in that regard will contribute to regional self-sufficiency and relieve anxieties at times of uncertainty.”</div><div><br></div><div>Expressing concern for the Global South, Dr. Jaishankar noted that the world today seeks immediate solutions to ongoing conflicts. The Global South, he said, has experienced setbacks in food, energy, and fertilizer security. On this occasion, Deputy High Commissioner of India Vimarsh Aryan, General Secretary of World Hindi Secretariat Dr. Madhuri Ramdhari and Deputy General Secretary Dr. Shubhankar Mishra, Arya leader Uday Narayan Gangu, along with litterateurs and writers from America, Tanzania, UAE, India and many other countries were also present. This event was organized under the joint aegis of World Hindi Secretariat, Ministry of Education and Human Resources of Mauritius and Indian High Commission Mauritius.</div><div> For Anjana Singh Sengar, literature lover Mauritius President Dharamveer Gokul said that the journey of your ghazals should not stop now, it has to be taken further. Impressed by Anjana's collection of Ghazals 'Yaadon Ki Riyasat', he praised it and said that Ghazals provide peace to the mind. Anjana Singh also gives speeches in literary programs in India and abroad such as Mauritius, Dubai, France, Malaysia, Indonesia etc. </div><div>Sharing her experience, Dr. Anjana said that people from abroad are very dedicated towards Hindi literature. </div><div> Anjana told that she has a special interest in poetic compositions. Learning poetic compositions requires more time and concentration because it takes time to practice literature. Due to which writers have started giving importance to writing in simple form, due to which the treasure of literature, poetic compositions, is disappearing. She wants the present generation to understand the importance of these poetic compositions. She says that people should learn every type of language but keep their Hindi language in their heart.</div><div> Dr. Anjana Singh Sengar, who took voluntary retirement from the Central Government service for literary writing, told that till now seven of her books have been published, whose names are - Man Ke Pankh, Jugnu Ki Jung, Janmanas Ke Maharaj which is written on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Khand Kavya on Sita Mata "Vidgadh Vandevi, Yaadon Ki Riyasat, Agar Tum Mujhse Kah Dete etc. Along with this, she has also written and edited many research papers. Till now she has received more than 60 awards and honours in the country and abroad for literary writing. Earlier, her Ghazal collection "Agar Tum Mujhse Kah Dete" has also received the Firaq Gorakhpuri Award of the Uttar Pradesh Government.
