SRI-N also works on services that connect Samsung Health with India’s digital health ecosystem, aligning with the government’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) initiative.</div><div><br></div><div><b>“Digital health, including watch-related features, is a key focus area,” said Kyungyun Roo, Managing Director, Samsung Research Institute-Noida.</b> “Over the past three to four years, we’ve launched India-specific services,” he added.</div><div><br></div><div>SRI-N was established in 2007 and works in collaboration with Samsung’s global R&D organisations across Galaxy mobile devices, wearables, tablets and software development. For Galaxy Watch users, the localised work translates sensor data into health and wellness insights through Samsung Health. </div><div><br></div><div>“Our platform connects wearable data with smartphones and supports capabilities across activity, sleep, nutrition, mindfulness and vital health indicators,” *said Dr Amitabh Thapliyal, Vice President, Service Development, Samsung Research Institute-Noida.* “We also contribute to health-tracking applications focused on wellness and preventive care.”</div><div><br></div><div><b>Researched & Tested in India</b></div><div>The centre’s work includes contributions to Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 capabilities such as Vital Tracker, Daily Cardio Load, Hearing Health and Trail Running.</div><div><br></div><div>Vital Tracker measures heart rate, heart-rate variability, skin temperature, respiratory rate and blood oxygen during sleep. When measurements move outside a user’s usual range, the system provides explanations and recommendations. Daily Cardio Load combines activity and recovery data, including sleep, to give users a more personalised view of exercise intensity. Trail Running provides navigation and uphill guidance, while hydration alerts use information about sweat during a trail to prompt users to drink water.</div><div><br></div><div>But SRI-N’s India role extends beyond developing software for these features. The centre conducts user trials and validates software under local conditions to identify issues that do not emerge in other markets. One example involved auto-cycle detection. During testing in India, the system initially interpreted movement from auto-rickshaws travelling on bumpy roads as bicycle rides. Indian engineers investigated the false positives and refined the algorithm.</div><div><br></div><div>“When we design and architect our solutions, we also consider demographic profiles and regional behaviours to ensure our software meets diverse needs,” Dr Thapliyal said. The work has also contributed to Samsung’s global products. “Our R&D engineers in India enhanced our sensor technology, and these improvements were incorporated into the global product,” he added. This gives SRI-N a dual role: developing technology for Samsung’s global portfolio while testing it against conditions and behaviours found in India.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Developed for India</b></div><div>The centre has also developed an India-specific connected health ecosystem around Samsung Health. Its work includes an ABDM-compliant health record developed with Eka Care, medication tracking with Tata 1mg, and Find Care services with Tata 1mg and PharmEasy for doctor consultations, medicine orders and lab-test bookings.</div><div><br></div><div>The ABDM integration is designed to give users greater control over their digital health records. With user consent, health records can be shared with ABDM-compliant healthcare providers. Find Care also connects consultations, prescriptions, medicine orders and lab tests within Samsung Health. For example, a consultation can generate a digital prescription. Samsung Health then uses AI to extract medication information and feed it into the Medication Management tracker. The resulting information can be stored in the user’s health record and, through ABDM integration, in the user’s Ayushman Bharat Health Account. Medication schedules can also continue through the Galaxy Watch.</div><div><br></div><div>“Find Care, integrated into the Samsung Health application, facilitates this process by enabling users to connect with doctors for consultations directly through the platform,” Dr Thapliyal said.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Samsung’s</b> focus is on using health data to provide personalised recommendations that can help users make informed decisions about their wellbeing. The approach reflects SRI-N’s software-led R&D role. “We are developing personalised intelligence that empowers users to improve their health and well-being,” Dr Thapliyal said. </div><div><br></div><div>For <b>SRI-N</b>, the work illustrates how R&D conducted in India can contribute to Samsung’s global products while also addressing specific requirements of Indian consumers. “We recognise the exceptional talent in India and aim to leverage it for Samsung Health and the AI domain,” Roo adds.</div><div><br></div><div>For <b>Samsung</b>, the India contribution therefore operates at several levels. Engineers develop health software for global Galaxy products. Local testing exposes real-world conditions that can improve global algorithms. At the same time, India-specific services connect Samsung Health to the country’s digital healthcare infrastructure. The Galaxy Watch is at the centre of that system: Capturing health signals, presenting personalised insights and, increasingly, helping users move from awareness to action.</div>

It is an opportunity to look at what happens when hearing loss in children is identified early, and what can happen when it is not. After more than three decades of working with children and adults with hearing loss, I have seen how timely intervention can influence a child’s communication, education, confidence and ability to participate independently in society.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Hearing plays an important role in a child’s development. </b>It supports the development of speech and language, learning and social interaction. When hearing loss is identified late, children may miss valuable periods of language development. According to the <b>World Health Organization</b>, around 95.1 million children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 19 globally live with hearing loss. These are not simply statistics; behind each number is a child whose ability to communicate and learn can be significantly influenced by the support they receive.</div><div><br></div><div>The good news is that families today have access to technologies that were not available to previous generations. Hearing aids, cochlear implants and other hearing technologies can provide access to sound for children who are appropriate candidates. However, technology alone is not enough. I often remind parents that receiving a hearing device is only the beginning of the journey. A child has to learn to listen, understand and process sound, and connect what they hear with language and meaning. This requires consistent use of the device along with appropriate auditory, speech and language rehabilitation.</div><div><br></div><div>Early intervention is therefore not the responsibility of one professional or one institution. Audiologists, speech-language pathologists, ENT specialists, educators and families all have an important role to play. The earlier a concern is identified, the sooner families can understand their options and begin the appropriate intervention. Fitting a hearing device should not be viewed as the end of treatment; it should be seen as the beginning of a child's communication and rehabilitation journey.</div><div><br></div><div>It is equally important that conversations around hearing loss recognise that every child is different. There is no single communication pathway that is right for every child. Sign language is an important language and a meaningful communication option  used to be for many Deaf people earlier but now families should have access to information about all appropriate choices. At the same time, when a child is an appropriate candidate for hearing technology and has the potential to develop spoken communication with rehabilitation, that opportunity should be made available as early as possible. Parents need information, professional guidance and the freedom to make informed decisions based on their child's individual needs.</div><div><br></div><div>Several factors can influence a child's communication journey, including the type and degree of hearing loss, the age at which it is identified, access to appropriate technology, regular rehabilitation, family involvement and the child's educational environment. This is why personalised intervention is so important. What works for one child may not necessarily work in exactly the same way for another.</div><div><br></div><div>There is also a larger social conversation that we need to have. Hearing loss should not automatically be associated with dependence or limited potential. With timely intervention and the right support, many children with hearing loss can develop the skills they need to communicate, learn, build relationships and eventually participate independently in professional and social life. The objective of hearing care should therefore go beyond simply providing access to sound. It should be about helping a child build the communication skills and confidence they need to participate fully in the world around them.</div><div><br></div><div>My <b>message to parents on World Deaf Day</b> is simple: if you have concerns about your child's hearing or speech, do not wait. Get the child's hearing tested, consult qualified professionals, understand the available options and begin intervention as early as possible if it is recommended. Early action cannot promise the same outcome for every child, but it can give families something extremely important, more time, more opportunities and more choices.</div><div><br></div><div>Inclusion is not simply about accommodating people with hearing loss. It is about creating an environment where children have the opportunity to communicate, learn, contribute and become as independent as possible. Every child deserves that opportunity, and as parents, professionals and as a society, we have a responsibility to ensure that valuable developmental opportunities are not lost because intervention came too late.</div>

That complaint has now resulted in summons against Nikita Jaiswal and her parents, following a court-directed inquiry that examined official attendance records, CCTV footage, medical documentation and other material.</div><div>The court records show that by the time Nikita Jaiswal’s FIR was lodged in Kanpur on 21 September 2025, Ayush Gupta had already made two complaints to Delhi Police, on 29 December 2024 and 25 April 2025, and had filed his criminal complaint before the Dwarka Court on 30 June 2025, on which notice had been issued.</div><div>The Delhi complaint names Nikita Jaiswal, Narender Jaiswal, Kusumlata Jaiswal, Nitish Jaiswal and Suchita Jaiswal as proposed accused and cites Sections 61, 79, 115, 116, 303, 305, 316 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.</div><div>The sections cited in the complaint are distinct from the provisions under which the court subsequently issued summons at the cognizance stage. </div><div><br></div><div>The September 2026 order records allegations in Ayush Gupta’s complaint concerning physical violence, threats of criminal implication and the alleged removal of jewellery, cash and documents from his parents’ residence.</div><div>Because the proposed accused persons were residing outside Delhi, the court directed an inquiry under Section 225 of the BNSS. The resulting inquiry examined CCTV footage, official attendance records, medical documentation and the statement of a domestic worker. The pharmacy bill produced in relation to an alleged hot-water incident of 4 April 2025 was independently verified during the inquiry.</div><div>One of the key issues examined was an allegation made by Nikita Jaiswal in relation to 24 April 2025. Her medico-legal report alleged that she had been assaulted by her husband and his family at about 11 a.m. that day. The attendance record obtained from her workplace, however, showed her presence at work from 10:24 a.m. to 6:26 p.m. The court observed that, at the prima-facie stage, the discrepancy lent credence to the complainant’s version and undermined the counter-allegation, while noting that the final evidentiary value would be determined at trial.</div><div><br></div><div>The inquiry also examined CCTV footage from 25 April 2025 showing Nikita Jaiswal leaving the residence carrying four to five bags, with no other person seen entering or leaving during the relevant period. A domestic worker told the inquiry that Nikita Jaiswal had entered the bedroom of Ayush Gupta’s mother, prevented her from entering, packed articles into a bag and then left hurriedly. The court also considered an email attributed to Nikita Jaiswal concerning family jewellery.</div><div><br></div><div>The inquiry also examined CCTV footage from 27 December 2024 which, according to the court record, purportedly showed Nikita Jaiswal’s parents threatening the complainant and his family with implication in criminal cases.</div><div>Nikita Jaiswal denied the allegations during the inquiry and stated that they were false and baseless. The court treated the competing versions and their evidentiary value as matters for trial.</div><div>On 5 September 2026, after considering the complaint, pre-summoning evidence, documentary material and the Section 225 BNSS investigation report, the Delhi court recorded prima-facie material to take cognizance and proceed against specified proposed accused persons. The court summoned Nikita Jaiswal under Sections 115, 303(2) and 351(2) of the BNS, and Narender Jaiswal and Kusumlata Jaiswal under Section 351(2). Nitish Jaiswal and Suchita Jaiswal, although named in the complaint, were not summoned at this stage. The matter is next listed for 16 November 2026.</div><div>Ayush Gupta made a police complaint on 29 December 2024, followed by another complaint on 25 April 2025 relating to the alleged loss of jewellery and ₹3 lakh in cash. He then filed the complaint before the Dwarka Court on 30 June 2025. Nikita Jaiswal’s Kanpur FIR was lodged on 21 September 2025, followed by a complaint under the Domestic Violence Act in Kanpur on 31 October 2025.</div><div>This chronology places Ayush Gupta’s Delhi complaint nearly three months ahead of the Kanpur FIR and establishes that the Delhi complaint had already been pending for nearly a year by the time the Kanpur proceedings received significant media attention in June 2026.</div><div>June 2026 reports on the Kanpur proceedings, including reports quoting Nikita Jaiswal’s counsel, did not refer to the earlier Dwarka complaint filed by Ayush Gupta in June 2025, which had already been pending for nearly a year. </div><div>The Kanpur case subsequently followed a separate procedural track. On Nikita Jaiswal’s objection to a chargesheet that named only Ayush Gupta, a Kanpur magistrate on 12 June 2026 summoned Ayush Gupta, members of his family and another person identified in media reports as a relative. According to a report published by Amar Ujala on 21 June 2026, the court also recommended disciplinary action in relation to the reassignment and handling of the investigation. </div><div>Ayush Gupta and the other applicants challenged the 12 June 2026 summoning order, the related chargesheets and the proceedings before the Allahabad High Court. In its order dated 3 August 2026, the High Court referred the matrimonial dispute to mediation and directed that the operation of the 12 June summoning order remain stayed until the next listing, subject to the conditions recorded in the order. The matter was directed to be listed in the week commencing 14 December 2026 along with the mediation report.</div><div><br></div><div>On 11 September 2026, proceedings under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act were also referred to mediation. The High Court directed that no coercive measures be taken against the applicants until the next date of listing, subject to the conditions recorded in the order. The matter is listed for 11 December 2026 along with the mediation report.</div><div><br></div><div>A separate development involving a relative of Nikita Jaiswal also appears in the wider public record.</div><div>Suchita Jaiswal, who is named as a proposed accused in Ayush Gupta’s Delhi complaint, is the elder sister of Nikita Jaiswal. Her husband, Arun Vikas Porwal, was reported in November 2024 as having been arrested in connection with a Kanpur POCSO case involving a minor NEET aspirant.</div><div>The New Indian Express reported on 10 November 2024 that Vikas Porwal, described as a chemistry instructor, was among two teachers arrested in the case and booked under provisions relating to rape, criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement and the POCSO Act.</div><div>The POCSO proceedings are separate from the matrimonial dispute, and the reference does not establish any involvement by Suchita Jaiswal in that case. </div><div><br></div><div>The Delhi matter is next listed for further proceedings on 16 November 2026 following the 5 September 2026 cognizance and summoning order. The Kanpur proceedings challenged before the Allahabad High Court have been referred to mediation, with the matter listed in the week commencing 14 December 2026. The separate Domestic Violence Act proceedings have also been referred to mediation, with the matter listed for 11 December 2026, subject to the Court’s interim directions.</div><div>The chronology now on record shows that Ayush Gupta’s Delhi complaint was already before a court months before the subsequent Kanpur FIR, while the Delhi proceeding has since progressed to the cognizance and summoning stage following a court-directed inquiry into documentary and other evidence.</div><div>Neither side’s case has been finally adjudicated at trial.</div>
