</div></div><div><b>Mumbai: Navitas Solar</b>, one of India’s leading solar module manufacturers, today announced plans to invest ₹10,000 crore over the next five years to build an integrated renewable energy ecosystem across Gujarat and Maharashtra. The planned investment will support the company’s expansion across the solar value chain, including ingots, wafers, high-efficiency solar cells and modules, alongside battery energy storage systems (BESS) and renewable power generation.</div><div>The investment roadmap marks a significant step in Navitas Solar’s evolution from a solar module manufacturer into a more deeply integrated clean energy company. The company intends to strengthen its presence across both the upstream and downstream segments of the renewable energy value chain, with a focus on building domestic manufacturing capabilities, enhancing supply-chain resilience, and participating in the development of large-scale renewable energy assets.</div><div>As part of the expansion, Navitas Solar is already progressing with a 2.4 GW solar cell manufacturing facility at Sisodara, Gujarat, with Phase I involving an investment of approximately ₹1,200 crore. The company is also developing pilot lines for ingot and wafer manufacturing, which are intended to build technical capabilities and create a foundation for future scale-up. The cell manufacturing facility is targeted to become operational by July 2027. </div><div>The company is also expanding beyond manufacturing into renewable energy generation and energy storage. In Maharashtra, Navitas Solar is developing two solar parks with capacities of 200 MW and 25 MW, respectively, under EPC and independent power producer (IPP) models. In Gujarat, the company is entering the energy storage segment with a planned 5 GWh battery energy storage facility in Vadodara, further strengthening its capabilities across the clean-energy ecosystem. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The company has a 3 GW annual solar module manufacturing capacity and manufactures high-efficiency solar modules, including TOPCon and Bifacial Mono PERC technologies. It has also been pursuing backward integration through its solar encapsulant business, Navitas Alpha, while expanding its renewable energy portfolio through subsidiaries such as Navitas Planet. Alongside utility-scale renewable energy projects in India, its EPC business is expanding its presence across the Southern African region for execution of utility/IPP scale projects.</div><div>The company’s investment roadmap comes at a time when India’s renewable energy sector is seeing increasing emphasis on domestic manufacturing, supply-chain resilience, and greater value addition across the solar ecosystem. </div><br></div><div><b>Mumbai/Berlin: </b>The vibrant colours of <b>Indian culture came alive in Berlin, the capital of Germany, as Ganesh Utsav was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm. </b>As chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and “Mangalmurti Morya” echoed through the streets of Berlin, the atmosphere turned deeply devotional. Members of the Indian diaspora, particularly families with roots in Maharashtra, participated enthusiastically in the grand celebrations, bringing the traditional cultural spirit of Maharashtra to foreign shores.</div><div><br></div><div>The enthusiasm of the Indian community was evident throughout the festivities. Men, women and children were seen dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire, including the nauvari sari, kurta-pyjama and saffron pheta. A grand procession made its way through the streets, with people dancing energetically to the beats of dhols and traditional drums. The sounds of traditional musical instruments and the vibrant Lezim dance also captivated local German residents, many of whom were seen capturing the unique cultural celebration on their cameras.</div><div><br></div><div>The newly constructed <b>Shri Ganesh Temple in Berlin</b> was the main centre of this year’s festivities. Special and elaborate religious programmes were organised at the new temple complex to welcome Lord Ganesha. The Maha Aarti, one of the main highlights of the celebrations, was attended by <b>India’s Ambassador to Germany, Ajit Gupte, and his wife, Preeti Gupte</b>. They offered prayers to Lord Ganesha and wished for happiness, prosperity and peace in India and around the world.</div><div><br></div><div>The <b>Embassy of India in Germany</b> wrote on social media platform ‘X’ on September 27, “Amb Ajit Gupte and Mrs Priti Gupte attended the Maha Aarti at newly-built Ganesha Temple in Berlin on 25 Sept 2026. A lively cultural programme with traditional dances and music by young Indian diaspora, preceded the Maha Aarti. Hundreds of Indian diaspora and German friends participated.”</div><div><br></div><div>Such celebrations serve not only to keep the Indian diaspora connected with its roots, but also to introduce younger generations growing up abroad to Indian culture and values. The festivities emerged as a remarkable symbol of unity and cultural pride among the Indian community living in Berlin.</div>

</div></div><div>From auto-rickshaw false positives to Govt-linked health records, Samsung’s Noida R&D centre is adapting wearable technology to Indian conditions and needs</div><div><br></div><div><b>Mumbai: Samsung Research Institute-Noida (SRI-N) </b>is contributing to health and wellness capabilities on the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, while testing wearable software under Indian conditions. SRI-N also works on services that connect Samsung Health with India’s digital health ecosystem, aligning with the government’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) initiative.</div><div><br></div><div><b>“Digital health, including watch-related features, is a key focus area,” said Kyungyun Roo, Managing Director, Samsung Research Institute-Noida.</b> “Over the past three to four years, we’ve launched India-specific services,” he added.</div><div><br></div><div>SRI-N was established in 2007 and works in collaboration with Samsung’s global R&D organisations across Galaxy mobile devices, wearables, tablets and software development. For Galaxy Watch users, the localised work translates sensor data into health and wellness insights through Samsung Health. </div><div><br></div><div>“Our platform connects wearable data with smartphones and supports capabilities across activity, sleep, nutrition, mindfulness and vital health indicators,” *said Dr Amitabh Thapliyal, Vice President, Service Development, Samsung Research Institute-Noida.* “We also contribute to health-tracking applications focused on wellness and preventive care.”</div><div><br></div><div><b>Researched & Tested in India</b></div><div>The centre’s work includes contributions to Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 capabilities such as Vital Tracker, Daily Cardio Load, Hearing Health and Trail Running.</div><div><br></div><div>Vital Tracker measures heart rate, heart-rate variability, skin temperature, respiratory rate and blood oxygen during sleep. When measurements move outside a user’s usual range, the system provides explanations and recommendations. Daily Cardio Load combines activity and recovery data, including sleep, to give users a more personalised view of exercise intensity. Trail Running provides navigation and uphill guidance, while hydration alerts use information about sweat during a trail to prompt users to drink water.</div><div><br></div><div>But SRI-N’s India role extends beyond developing software for these features. The centre conducts user trials and validates software under local conditions to identify issues that do not emerge in other markets. One example involved auto-cycle detection. During testing in India, the system initially interpreted movement from auto-rickshaws travelling on bumpy roads as bicycle rides. Indian engineers investigated the false positives and refined the algorithm.</div><div><br></div><div>“When we design and architect our solutions, we also consider demographic profiles and regional behaviours to ensure our software meets diverse needs,” Dr Thapliyal said. The work has also contributed to Samsung’s global products. “Our R&D engineers in India enhanced our sensor technology, and these improvements were incorporated into the global product,” he added. This gives SRI-N a dual role: developing technology for Samsung’s global portfolio while testing it against conditions and behaviours found in India.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Developed for India</b></div><div>The centre has also developed an India-specific connected health ecosystem around Samsung Health. Its work includes an ABDM-compliant health record developed with Eka Care, medication tracking with Tata 1mg, and Find Care services with Tata 1mg and PharmEasy for doctor consultations, medicine orders and lab-test bookings.</div><div><br></div><div>The ABDM integration is designed to give users greater control over their digital health records. With user consent, health records can be shared with ABDM-compliant healthcare providers. Find Care also connects consultations, prescriptions, medicine orders and lab tests within Samsung Health. For example, a consultation can generate a digital prescription. Samsung Health then uses AI to extract medication information and feed it into the Medication Management tracker. The resulting information can be stored in the user’s health record and, through ABDM integration, in the user’s Ayushman Bharat Health Account. Medication schedules can also continue through the Galaxy Watch.</div><div><br></div><div>“Find Care, integrated into the Samsung Health application, facilitates this process by enabling users to connect with doctors for consultations directly through the platform,” Dr Thapliyal said.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Samsung’s</b> focus is on using health data to provide personalised recommendations that can help users make informed decisions about their wellbeing. The approach reflects SRI-N’s software-led R&D role. “We are developing personalised intelligence that empowers users to improve their health and well-being,” Dr Thapliyal said. </div><div><br></div><div>For <b>SRI-N</b>, the work illustrates how R&D conducted in India can contribute to Samsung’s global products while also addressing specific requirements of Indian consumers. “We recognise the exceptional talent in India and aim to leverage it for Samsung Health and the AI domain,” Roo adds.</div><div><br></div><div>For <b>Samsung</b>, the India contribution therefore operates at several levels. Engineers develop health software for global Galaxy products. Local testing exposes real-world conditions that can improve global algorithms. At the same time, India-specific services connect Samsung Health to the country’s digital healthcare infrastructure. The Galaxy Watch is at the centre of that system: Capturing health signals, presenting personalised insights and, increasingly, helping users move from awareness to action.</div>

It is an opportunity to look at what happens when hearing loss in children is identified early, and what can happen when it is not. After more than three decades of working with children and adults with hearing loss, I have seen how timely intervention can influence a child’s communication, education, confidence and ability to participate independently in society.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Hearing plays an important role in a child’s development. </b>It supports the development of speech and language, learning and social interaction. When hearing loss is identified late, children may miss valuable periods of language development. According to the <b>World Health Organization</b>, around 95.1 million children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 19 globally live with hearing loss. These are not simply statistics; behind each number is a child whose ability to communicate and learn can be significantly influenced by the support they receive.</div><div><br></div><div>The good news is that families today have access to technologies that were not available to previous generations. Hearing aids, cochlear implants and other hearing technologies can provide access to sound for children who are appropriate candidates. However, technology alone is not enough. I often remind parents that receiving a hearing device is only the beginning of the journey. A child has to learn to listen, understand and process sound, and connect what they hear with language and meaning. This requires consistent use of the device along with appropriate auditory, speech and language rehabilitation.</div><div><br></div><div>Early intervention is therefore not the responsibility of one professional or one institution. Audiologists, speech-language pathologists, ENT specialists, educators and families all have an important role to play. The earlier a concern is identified, the sooner families can understand their options and begin the appropriate intervention. Fitting a hearing device should not be viewed as the end of treatment; it should be seen as the beginning of a child's communication and rehabilitation journey.</div><div><br></div><div>It is equally important that conversations around hearing loss recognise that every child is different. There is no single communication pathway that is right for every child. Sign language is an important language and a meaningful communication option  used to be for many Deaf people earlier but now families should have access to information about all appropriate choices. At the same time, when a child is an appropriate candidate for hearing technology and has the potential to develop spoken communication with rehabilitation, that opportunity should be made available as early as possible. Parents need information, professional guidance and the freedom to make informed decisions based on their child's individual needs.</div><div><br></div><div>Several factors can influence a child's communication journey, including the type and degree of hearing loss, the age at which it is identified, access to appropriate technology, regular rehabilitation, family involvement and the child's educational environment. This is why personalised intervention is so important. What works for one child may not necessarily work in exactly the same way for another.</div><div><br></div><div>There is also a larger social conversation that we need to have. Hearing loss should not automatically be associated with dependence or limited potential. With timely intervention and the right support, many children with hearing loss can develop the skills they need to communicate, learn, build relationships and eventually participate independently in professional and social life. The objective of hearing care should therefore go beyond simply providing access to sound. It should be about helping a child build the communication skills and confidence they need to participate fully in the world around them.</div><div><br></div><div>My <b>message to parents on World Deaf Day</b> is simple: if you have concerns about your child's hearing or speech, do not wait. Get the child's hearing tested, consult qualified professionals, understand the available options and begin intervention as early as possible if it is recommended. Early action cannot promise the same outcome for every child, but it can give families something extremely important, more time, more opportunities and more choices.</div><div><br></div><div>Inclusion is not simply about accommodating people with hearing loss. It is about creating an environment where children have the opportunity to communicate, learn, contribute and become as independent as possible. Every child deserves that opportunity, and as parents, professionals and as a society, we have a responsibility to ensure that valuable developmental opportunities are not lost because intervention came too late.</div>
