The three sections, New Sanad North – New Makarpura, New Umbergaon – New Saphale, and New Saphale – New JNPT, together cover a total length of 326 KM and have been constructed at a cumulative cost of ₹20,703 crore.</div><div><br></div><div>The event at Maharashtra location was graced by the presence of <b>Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Maharashtra; Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Sato Hitomi, Consul-General, Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai; TAKEUCHI Takuro, Chief Representative, JICA India along with Shri Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, DFCCIL</b> and other dignitaries.</div><div><br></div><div>The completion of the 1,506 KM long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), now connects Dadri in Uttar Pradesh with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai, marking a major milestone in the modernisation of India’s freight transportation network. This project represents one of the most significant achievements of India–Japan cooperation in large-scale infrastructure development. </div><div><br></div><div>JICA has extended cumulative Official Development Assistance (ODA) loans of JPY 620,787 million (INR 37,658 crore) to DFCCIL, supporting India’s efforts to modernise, enhance logistics infrastructure and strengthen connectivity along the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. </div><div><br></div><div>On this occasion, <b>Sato Hitomi, Consul-General, Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai</b> said, “the inauguration of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor shows another completion of the flagship project of Japan-India cooperation. As a national logistics artery, this high-capacity, fully electrified corridor will accelerate logistics, enhance industrial competitiveness, reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and ease congestion on passenger lines. Japan is proud to have participated in this initiative through ODA scheme. JICA and Japanese and Indian companies and experts have shared their knowledge and worked hard to realize the project.” </div><div><br></div><div><b>TAKEUCHI Takuro, Chief Representative, JICA India</b>, shared the following comments, “WDFC is not merely a railway project. JICA remains fully committed to supporting India's continued development and to further strengthening the special strategic and global partnership between the two countries.” </div><div><br></div><div>The commissioning of these three sections of the WDFC will provide direct rail connectivity to <b>Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA)</b> through the WDFC network, enabling faster and more efficient cargo movement. The corridor connects key industrial hubs in Palghar, Thane and Raigad in Maharashtra with industrial centres across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat, linking them to ports and national markets and supporting regional economic growth. It is also expected to reduce logistics costs and transit time while helping decongest Mumbai’s railway network.</div>

He will also address the ‘NaMo 4 Viksit Bharat’ event in the city.</div><div><br></div><div>The cleanliness campaign, being conducted as part of the Gujarat government’s special ‘Swachhata Se Swagat’ initiative for the visit, has focused on public spaces, lakes, gardens, healthcare and childcare facilities, heritage sites, water bodies and other parts of the city. The campaign from September 1 to 4 saw extensive participation across the city. </div><div><br></div><div>On September 1, over 16,000 citizens participated in a cleanliness drive at Kamlanagar Lake and its surrounding areas, while 24,000 people took part in cleanliness activities across 19 wards. Around 300 machines and vehicles, including mechanical sweepers, self-propelled sweeping machines, door-to-door collection vehicles, e-vehicles, JCBs and dumpers, were deployed for the operations. Plantation and sapling distribution activities were also carried out as part of environmental awareness campaign.</div><div><br></div><div>On September 2, the VMC extended the campaign to Anganwadi Centres and Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs). Cleanliness drives were conducted at 30 Anganwadi Centres with the participation of around 3,000 people.</div><div><br></div><div>Cleanliness activities were also held at 101 UPHCs, comprising 78 government and 23 private centres, with participation from nearly 24,000 citizens. The campaign brought together civic officials and staff, sanitation workers, public representatives, healthcare institutions, educational institutions, NGOs and citizens. Around 2,400 saplings were planted and distributed across Anganwadi Centres, UPHCs and other locations.</div><div><br></div><div>On September 3, the drive focused on the city’s heritage and cultural assets. Around 1,200 people participated in the cleanliness drive at Karodiya Stepwell, while over 25,000 citizens took part in cleanliness activities across all 19 wards. The campaign covered around 47 km across Karodiya Stepwell and other locations in the city. More than 2,400 saplings were planted and distributed, while 320 machines and vehicles were deployed. The drive sought to combine cleanliness and beautification with environmental stewardship, with particular emphasis on heritage sites, stepwells and other cultural spaces.</div><div><br></div><div>The campaign continued on September 4 with a focus on Vadodara’s natural and recreational assets. Around 1,200 people participated in cleanliness activities at Gotri Lake and Garden and the Kamlanagar Lake and Garden area. Around 12,000 participants joined the cleanliness drive along the Kavad Yatra route, covering approximately 80 km, while another 25,000 citizens participated in drives across all 19 wards. The day’s activities covered approximately 140 km in total, with 380 machines and vehicles deployed. Around 2,700 saplings were planted and distributed.</div><div><br></div><div>The activities were aimed not only at cleaning public spaces but also at encouraging greater citizen participation and awareness of the importance of maintaining the city’s public, natural and cultural assets.</div>

Beyond the restoration of the temple, the Koti Teerth Corridor aims to conserve the heritage precinct stretching from Mahadev Tali to Koti Teerth and Hatkeshwar Ghat, celebrating Divar's rich religious, cultural and historical legacy.</div><div><br></div><div>Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said Goa's history must be preserved and passed on to future generations. He recalled that the State had witnessed the rule of the Bhojas, Chalukyas, Kadambas, Adilshahi and the Portuguese, and noted that many temples were destroyed during the Portuguese era. "Dev, Dharma and Desh is the guiding principle of our work. It is our responsibility to ensure that the next generation understands Goa's glorious history and heritage," he said.</div><div><br></div><div>CM Dr. Sawant also highlighted the contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in restoring the Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's resistance against forced religious conversions in Goa. Referring to the history of Cuncolim, the Pinto Revolt and the struggle led by Dipaji Rane, he said these events remain defining chapters of Goa's identity. He added that the recent discovery of remains linked to the original temple site had added special significance to the restoration, and expressed confidence that the project would be completed within a year.</div><div><br></div><div>Historically known as Deepavati Kshetra, Divar is mentioned in the Sahyadri Khand of the Skanda Purana for its spiritual importance. Built during the Kadamba dynasty in the distinctive Kadamba Nagar Prasad architectural style, Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple was one of Goa's most revered temples.
