Lucknow : A fresh political storm has erupted over a controversial remark made by Samajwadi Party’s National General Secretary and Manjhanpur MLA, Indrajeet Saroj, who stated during an Ambedkar Jayanti event that "if temples had power, invaders like Ghaznavi and Ghori wouldn't have been able to attack India."
The statement has drawn severe criticism from renowned social worker and nationalist thinker Hukoom Uday Pratap Singh, who called it "an insult to the faith of millions and a direct assault on India's cultural heritage."
Speaking to the media, Singh said, "Temples are not just structures of stone, they are sacred symbols of devotion and strength for millions of Indians. Leaders like Indrajeet Saroj make such remarks for cheap political mileage and in doing so, they try to divide society."
He further added, "Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, India is progressing rapidly. The world is recognizing India’s strength. In Uttar Pradesh, goondaism and mafia rule have been effectively dismantled by the Yogi government. Questioning the power of temples is not only disrespectful but also ignorant of India’s resilient spirit and glorious history."
Hukoom Uday Pratap Singh emphasized that "Indian temples symbolize culture, knowledge, unity, and tolerance. Those who call them weak neither understand history nor respect the nation's soul."
He also demanded that the Samajwadi Party take a clear stance and that Indrajeet Saroj apologize publicly for his offensive statement.
Political Circles React Strongly, The comment has sparked outrage on social media, where users are labeling it as "an attack on Hindu faith." BJP leaders have also condemned the statement, calling it an example of "pseudo-secular politics."
