Mumbai : Narali Poornima is a significant Hindu festival primarily celebrated by the fisherfolk community in Maharashtra and the Konkan regions. On this day, people observe a day-long fast, decorate their boats, and pray to Lord Varun, the God of the Sea, seeking prosperity and protection from natural sea calamities. Narali Poornima coincides with Raksha Bandhan, making it a double celebration for many families in Maharashtra.
This year, the Koli Agri Society, under the leadership of President Chandu Dada Patil, organized a grand Narali Poornima event in Airoli on the full moon day of Shravan. The event was graced by Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Kailash Shinde and actress and influencer Ekta Jain. The celebration featured traditional folk songs, which everyone enjoyed. A puja (ritual worship) was conducted for Lord Varun, followed by the Aarti of Goddess Ekvira.
Kailash Shinde, Ekta Jain, and Chandu Dada Patil were warmly welcomed with garlands, and the guests were presented with framed pictures of Goddess Ekvira. Commissioner Kailash Shinde praised Chandu Dada Patil for consistently organizing such events. Additionally, life jackets were distributed to the fishermen present at the event.
Actress Ekta Jain expressed her delight at attending the celebration, thanking Chandu Dada Patil for the invitation. She mentioned how much she enjoyed the folk songs and plans to share information about this festival with her followers on social media.
Following this puja, the fishermen will receive the auspicious timing to venture into the sea.
