Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday starrer Khali Peeli has been creating the right noise ever since the unveiling of its teaser in August. Despite controlled promotions, it had been creating a buzz due to an effective campaign around the film and its release so much so that it has become one of the most awaited films of the year.
During interviews and virtual interactions, the actors and the filmmakers – Ali Abbas Zafar and Himanshu Kishan Mehra - have only emphasised on their passion project and their love for the craft of filmmaking and promoted the film for its effective content instead of resorting to unnecessary attention seeking gimmicks.
Now that the film has released and has been watched by the industry, the trade circuit and the audience, they cannot stop raving about Khaali Peeli for being a true-blue masala entertainer. The foot-tapping numbers, Duniya Sharma Jayegi and Tehas Nehas, which are already topping the charts, are being hailed for rendering an added magic to the film. According to them, Ishaan and Ananya’s sizzling chemistry is the highlight of the film. Love and appreciation are pouring in from every nook and corner of social media and the film has received a thumbs-up from those who have treated themselves to this visual spectacle. While Ishaan has reminded many of Aamir Khan’s tapori avatar in Rangeela, many has shared that Ananya with her performance will leave her detractors surprised.
According to Times of India, Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday's crackling chemistry, adrenaline-pumping action sequences, foot-tapping music and high-voltage dance sequences make it a winner through and through. In their words, “Khaali Peeli is said to be one quintessential Indian film, packed with songs, dance, emotion and comedy, packed with the flavours and spices of the big city.”
In a similar vein, News18 has said that the raw action and the Mumbaiyya lingo make the film a quintessential commercial masala entertainer. Apart from appreciating the music of the film, they have written, “The chemistry between the two (Ishaan and Ananya) certainly is rather volatile and gets the meter down on the film.”
For Komal Nahta, Khaali Peeli strikes gold with to the performance of the cast. “Ishaan Khatter lives the role of Blackie. He does a wonderful job in the acting, dancing and action departments. His easy approach to his layered character makes him endearing to the audience. Ananya Panday is rather cute as Pooja. She acts with effortless ease,” he wrote, adding, “Performances and dialogues are its scoring points, besides the many twists and turns in the script. It will be liked mainly by the youth which also seems to be its target audience.” Praising the director, he wrote, “Maqbool Khan’s direction belies the fact that this is his debut attempt. He knows the craft and the art of story-telling.”

Directed by Maqbool Khan, Khaali Peeli is produced by Himanshu Kishan Mehra, Ali Abbas Zafar and Zee Studios. It has released today on Zee Plex.
